Creating Success

You might think that to get that promotion you need your boss to do something. What about if it is all in your power and it is you that needs to take the next step? Are you ready – yes! Are you able – of course! Are you willing?

Job search is hard. There are no two ways about it. Getting an interview, from an emailed CV, is harder than ever. Creative job seekers try new approaches. Here’s Sean’s story.

Skill-sets are like people. They are diverse. They are amazing. They are unique. Einstein said: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” If you are unsure of your value to the working world it might be more to do with rigid job specs than your true talents.

Talking with my sister at the weekend, the subject turned to new jobs. Specifically why is it SO hard to get one! Why can’t you just talk to someone, tell them you want a job, have an interview, get the job offer. There is a way…

One of the most common causes of failure is quitting at a temporary defeat. If you set yourself a goal and you quit at some point whilst doing the actions you’ve decided will get you from where you are now to where you want to be you are never going to reach your destination, your dream, the thing that makes you tingle when you think about it.

Go forward as far as you dare. Five years. Ten years. Fifteen years. How much time do you spend working? Is that all out of the house? Do you work for a company? Do you work for yourself? What do you do? Are you doing it with passion and are you passionate about it?

Written by Kal Malik   Quite literally the foundation of most successes in life is the science of planning and scheduling   I call it a science because I believe that there are certain key principles to creating a plan and schedule to achieve the goals we dream of. Just to clarify the difference between […]

Beep beep beep … beep beep beep … beep beep beep … smack the snooze button … beep beep beep … beep beep beep … beep beep beep … time to get up, yeugh!     Was that the start of your day today? First time you’ve set the alarm for a while?   Did […]

Written by Julie Holmwood     As Christmas approaches faster than an out of control speeding train and the New Year looms on the horizon, you are no doubt starting to thing about goals, resolutions and ‘next year will be better (or even better), because …’ phrases   The truth is though that the only […]

Julie and I had a discussion about a month ago regarding the creation of a “personal power group;” ie people who we surround ourselves as support and mentors; cheerleaders for own intentions and purposes.   Ideas like this have a tendency to “incubate” in my mind and eventually are born to new ideas. This concept […]

Written by Bob Howard-Spink Now I am all about looking forward in life …doing new things …never too late to change and all that. Dwelling on the past certainly wouldn’t be seen as recommended practice by yours truly. But it seems I’ve had a bit of an epiphany moment or maybe an accumulation of meta-epiphany moments.  The first […]

Written by Kal Malik Life coaches understand that there are two principal forces that govern motivation. I like to call them the two D’s. The first of these D’s is understood by most of us, it is called Desire. Of course it makes sense that being motivated in a particular direction we would rightly desire […]

Bob Burg says ‘It isn’t just what you know, and it isn’t just who you know. It’s actually who you know, who knows you, and what you do for a living’

Whatever you want to achieve in your career, wherever you want to go, whatever pinnacle you have set as your target you are on a journey. One that takes steps every day from here to over there. What you do is the vehicle to take you on that journey

When you look around at people you know and those that you don’t, but who catch your eye, can you see any correlation between their intelligence and their income? Is one thing linked to another via their family connections? Is there an obvious equation – x circumstance + y condition = z income?

You know that income is not necessarily linked to intelligence because there are a lot of PhD’s and Professors out there who don’t seem to be earning multiple millions. Then you look at musicians and footballers and know that the secret to income levels is most definitely not linked to an IQ based formula (although of course there are some extremely clever musicians and footballers … they are just typically not in the same league mentally as the PhD’s and Professors)

So why did I start this article talking about habits and beliefs?

Why did I take so much time doing other things when I could have found myself on this very path years ago? Why did I have to wait until I really had nothing to lose to take a risk…and maybe achieve that which I have always wanted?

Maybe because I was finally at a point where I had really nothing left to lose that I could. The only remaining option for me was to really think about what I wanted — because I had the option of time — and perhaps a hint of desperation — in feeling as this might be my last chance to really follow my heart.

Traditionally people shouted from rooftops. In these modern times (and bearing in mind the many health and safety regulations) I think it is time to shout it from your laptop (iPhone, BlackBerry, iPad … )

What should you shout? All about YOU! The subject you know more about than any other living person. You are an expert on the topic of you and your combination of skills, experience, character and ambition is uniquely yours

So how do you do that?

The great news for an expert is that there is always work. When you can do something in a way that no-one else can, or in a time frame that no-one else is able, you will be called on time and time again by people that know that about you

Allow me to offer a new perspective on words. A new way of seeing a belief that may help you “see” with new perceptions.

We are told to live life with intention and purpose. Everyday we awake and re-affirm our personal goals, our vows of success. And yet, so many fail to miss that mark. As a coach I know. Not only have I failed in my purpose and intentions, but I failed to help many to see purpose and intention can be misleading. Then slowly I began to see the clarity. We must first understand is what brings our lives “meaning.” Once armed with this understanding of our “why” or meaning in life, I saw THEN and ONLY then can we live a life with purpose and intention.

Webster’s defines “purpose” as: something set up as an object or ends to be attained; ie when we have established goals then we define a daily activity that leads us to the completion of our goals. The definition of “intention”: a determination to act in a certain way; ie our focus becomes performing those actions in support of our purpose and goals.

I often liken the journey of life to a car journey. The rules are the same but it is easier to relate to something smaller that we can all clearly see a start and end point for

When you have a dream you might spend a lot of time thinking about it. Mentally seeing yourself having or doing that which you dream about. Imagining what your life will be like when that thing or event happens. But how do you make it a dream that comes true?

The true self acts out of love. Love comes in many forms from romantic love to nurturing love to tough love. Sometimes, we need a bit more tough love, to stop the ego taking over with its victim mentality.

The ego acts out of fear. It does not want to be challenged at all, so it will always be watching for a challenge and will make its judgments based on the fear of being challenged. Try not to act out of fear

As challenges confront us, the ego will scream and shout about how unfair it all is. It will take on a victim mentality. The true self will see the challenge for what it is, realize the importance of standing up to the challenge and be prepared to endure whatever pain and suffering the challenge holds.
