Enforce Plan A!
One of the most life changing books you will ever find in the bookshops (and hopefully read) is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Within the first chapter Napoleon talks about Mr Darby and his uncle who stopped three feet from gold. Having staked a claim and successfully mined a small vein of gold, they lost the flow and decided to quit. They sold the machinery to a junk man and went home.
The junk man sought expert counsel and found millions of dollars of gold; three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling!
One of the most common causes of failure is quitting at a temporary defeat
Talking about riding and winning the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong famously said;
‘Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever’
If you set yourself a goal and you quit at some point whilst doing the actions you’ve decided will get you from where you are now to where you want to be, you are never going to reach your destination. Your dream, the thing that makes you tingle when you think about it, will remain just that. A dream!
That is not to say that you can’t switch methods, try a different route, do things in a new way. But you must continue.
If you board an ocean liner
You set sail from England bound for New York. If after three days of going on deck and seeing only water, you ask the captain to turn the boat around and head back to England, everyone would call you a fool. Yet when you are sailing towards your dreams people use sayings such as ‘quit while you’re ahead’ and ‘you gave it your best shot’. Surely your best shot is to believe in yourself and your dream enough to keep on going?
I read today that Plan B is to enforce Plan A
